Blue Lagoon Kitesurf Trip from Sharm El Sheikh

Kitesurfing at Blue Lagoon near Dahab

Looking for a Blue Lagoon kitesurf trip from Sharm El Sheikh? Once you can ride on your own, few days on the water beat a session at Blue Lagoon near Dahab. You’re tucked between the mountains of South Sinai, the wind is usually strong, and the whole place runs at the slow, friendly pace of the Bedouin camps. At The Kite Bubble, we organise full-day kite trips there from our school in Nabq Bay.

What makes Blue Lagoon special

The scenery is simply cinematic. Mountains rise all around the lagoon, and the wind is usually very strong, so it’s a playground for confident riders. In addition, there are no big hotels here. All the camps are owned by Bedouin families, and the atmosphere is completely laid back.

There’s also a story we’re proud of. Some of the Bedouins at Blue Lagoon are now certified IKO instructors, and every one of them earned their certification with us at The Kite Bubble.

How the trip works

Getting to Blue Lagoon is part of the adventure. From Sharm El Sheikh it’s about an hour by car, then a 15-minute boat ride and around 15 minutes off-road. We take care of all of it:

  • Transport from Sharm El Sheikh and back
  • Organising the boat to the lagoon
  • Lunch at the Bedouin camp that’s our base for the day
  • An IKO instructor as your guide for the whole trip

Bring your own kite, or rent equipment from us before you go.

Who is the Blue Lagoon kitesurf trip for?

Independent kiters and advanced riders will have a blast. The strong wind and open space make it perfect for long sessions and pushing your riding further.

Still learning? Usually your lessons take place at our home spot in Nabq Bay. However, on days when there’s no wind at home, we can sometimes organise lessons at Blue Lagoon for students who are really keen. Find out more about our IKO kitesurfing courses.

Planning around the wind

A great trip depends on great wind. That’s why we plan each Blue Lagoon trip around the forecast and the advice of the local Bedouin guides, who know the lagoon better than anyone. You can also follow the conditions yourself with our live wind forecast.

Booking and price

Trips run on request. The price depends on the size of the group: the more people join, the cheaper it gets for everyone. So if you’re travelling with friends, bring them along.

Tell us your dates, your level and how many of you are coming, and we’ll plan your Blue Lagoon kitesurf trip together. Message us on WhatsApp or use our contact page.

kitesurfing team

Looking for a holiday where the whole family can try something new together? A family kitesurfing holiday in Sharm El Sheikh combines sunshine, warm water and a new adventure. It gives everyone stories to tell for years. At The Kite Bubble in Nabq Bay, we welcome families of all kinds. Maybe everyone wants to learn, or maybe just one of you does.

Kitesurfing courses for children

Kids often pick up kitesurfing faster than adults expect. IKO certified instructors teach our kitesurfing courses for children. They adapt every lesson to a young rider’s age, size and confidence. The focus is on safety and fun, so children build real skills while enjoying every session.

Lessons for parents too

While the kids learn, parents can take kitesurfing lessons of their own. We offer everything from beginner courses to refresher sessions. Learning alongside your children can be the best part of the trip. You’ll cheer each other on from the very first day. We also offer windsurfing and wing surfing lessons, if someone in the family would rather try something different.

A safe place to learn

Safety matters most when children join in. Our lessons take place on an open kite spot with no jetties. You’ll find over 3 square kilometers of warm, flat water. Our instructors follow international IKO standards in safety and teaching. Read more about why that matters in our post on IKO certified kitesurfing instructors.

Something for everyone on the beach

Not everyone in the family has to kitesurf. Those who prefer to relax can enjoy the beach while the others are on the water. Have a look at our On Spot Facilities page to see what’s waiting for you.

Live Wind & Weather in Nabq Bay, Sharm El Sheikh

Nabq wind

What’s the wind like in Nabq Bay right now? At The Kite Bubble, we run our own weather station right on the beach. You can check live Nabq Bay wind and weather readings before every session, wherever you are.

Check the live readings

Our station uploads fresh readings every minute. You can follow them live on Weather Underground, Windfinder, Windguru and Windy . Our readings also feed these services, which helps them build more accurate forecasts for Nabq Bay.

About our weather station

We use a Davis Vantage Vue, a fully integrated weather station built for accuracy and protected against corrosion. A Meteobridge Pro2 sends its readings online, so kiters can check conditions from anywhere. At our school, you’ll also see the live readings on the console at our entrance door. It’s the only working weather station in Nabq Bay.

Wind and weather through the year

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons to visit. In March, daytime highs reach around 25°C, and nights cool to about 13°C. The sea sits at around 22–23°C.

Autumn brings even warmer water, around 26–27°C. Daytime highs average about 31°C in October and 27°C in November. Nights stay mild, between 18 and 23°C.

The wind blows all year in Nabq Bay, but the most consistent months are April through October. It usually blows side-onshore at around 15 to 20 knots, and mornings are often the steadiest. Kitesurfing Spot in Sharm El Sheikh: Nabq Bay, No Jetties

Flat water with no Jetties

What makes a great kitesurfing spot? Steady wind, flat water and plenty of space. Our kitesurfing spot in Sharm El Sheikh has all three. It sits in Nabq Bay, tucked between the mountains and the Red Sea, and riders of every level love it.

Our spot at a glance

Our riding area is fringed by a reef that creates a huge flat-water lagoon, mostly knee to chest deep. Because of the reef, the tides don’t affect the riding area, so you get hours of uninterrupted riding. In addition, you’ll find over 3 square kilometers of warm water to explore. Take a look at the lagoon on Google Earth.

Unlike other spots in Nabq, there are no jetties or speedboats in the way. Instead, you get a wide, open area to launch, ride and practice, with plenty of room on the beach to set up your kite.

Wind and season

Thanks to its position north of the city, Nabq Bay gets stronger wind than the rest of Sharm El Sheikh. The wind blows mostly from the north to north-east, side-onshore, at around 15 to 20 knots, and mornings are often the most consistent. It blows all year, but the most reliable months are April through October.

Also, our own weather station sends live readings to the major forecast websites, so you can check the wind forecast before you come. Want to know when the wind is strongest? See our guide to the best time to kitesurf in Sharm El Sheikh.

What to wear

In summer, the water is warm enough that you won’t need a wetsuit. For spring and autumn, we recommend a shorty. However, in winter you’ll need a long 3/2 mm wetsuit.

Learning in shallow water

Shallow water makes learning easier. It’s simpler to put your board on, and you can stand up to recover it when you lose it. But there’s a catch: riders who only learn in shallow water sometimes never learn to recover their board in deep water. That’s why body dragging is part of our beginner courses. Also, always stay where the water is at least hip-high, and ask the locals about any spot before you enter the water.

Space for beginners and experienced riders

Because there are no jetties nearby, beginners can focus on the kite and the board. Our IKO certified instructors guide every step, in private lessons for faster progress or group lessons where you learn with new friends. If you’re new to the sport, read our guide on how to learn kitesurfing in Sharm El Sheikh, or have a look at our beginner kitesurfing lessons.

Meanwhile, experienced riders get longer sessions and room to practice new skills. Bring your own kite, or rent equipment from us on the spot. Advanced riders can also explore the shore-break waves in the bay north of Nabq’s center, reachable by land or by riding upwind.

More spots nearby

Want to explore further? There are up to 5 kite spots within 50 minutes of Nabq Bay, and we also organise full-day Blue Lagoon kite trips near Dahab. On days without wind, snorkelers will love the reef drop-off just beyond the lagoon.

Nabq Downwind Trip: Kitesurfing from the Protected Area

Nabq downwind trip

“Over 20 kiters from Sharm el Sheikh flying on the water. It is our downwinder trip, kiting Nabq from top to bottom!

Downwinder start point

Our Nabq downwind trip lets you kite the whole length of Nabq, from top to bottom, with the Sinai mountains on one side and the Gulf of Aqaba all around you. It’s one of the best ways to experience kitesurfing in Sharm El Sheikh.

Why go downwind?

Going downwind is a completely different experience. Because you’re riding with the wind, the kite’s power is reduced, and you don’t need to edge the board hard. As a result, you cover long distances quickly while you relax and look around. It’s also a great chance to learn new skills. For example, you can try toeside riding and long carved turns without worrying about losing ground.

Adventure and sightseeing

The trip combines adventure with spectacular scenery. You’ll ride a long stretch along the Nabq Protected Area, with the high mountains of Sinai in view. Toward the end, the coastline changes to beautiful beach resorts. Finally, you arrive at our home beach at Coral Sea Waterworld.

How the Nabq downwind trip works

We meet at The Kite Bubble at 7:30 am on a windy day. From there, a bus drives us about 30 minutes upwind into Nabq National Park. Our team then helps you set up your kite on the beach. Before we start, we brief you on every detail of the trip.

Safety on the water

Safety is built into every part of the trip. Our team includes beach helpers and IKO certified instructors, and we carry a first aid kit. In addition, a rescue boat with an IKO instructor on board keeps an eye on every rider. On the water, one instructor guides the group from the front, while another rides behind everyone. That way, you can relax and enjoy the ride.

Join our next Nabq downwind trip

Our downwind trips have brought together groups of more than 20 kiters, and it’s an experience you won’t forget. Bring your own gear, or rent equipment from us. Contact us to join our next Nabq downwind trip.
