The International Kiteboarding Organization (IKO) offers a structured pathway for learning, progressing, and teaching kitesurfing. Whether you are taking your first lesson or developing skills, IKO courses provide a progression designed around safety, technique, and confidence.

The journey begins with Discovery Kiteboarder Level 1, where beginners learn kite control, safety procedures, body dragging, water relaunch, and the foundations of riding. Intermediate Kiteboarder Level 2 develops stronger board skills, controlled starts, riding techniques, and progression. Independent Kiteboarder Level 3 focuses on becoming more self-sufficient, improving navigation, safety awareness, equipment handling, and riding in different conditions.

Advanced Kiteboarder Level 4 is designed for riders who want to refine their technique and become more confident in challenging situations. From there, Evolution Level 5 allows experienced riders to specialize and progress in disciplines such as freeride, freestyle, wave riding, hydrofoil, or wing foil.

The pathway can begin with the Assistant Course, which introduces teaching methods, safety, weather, wind, tides, kite theory, and communication.
