The kitesurfing discovery course is where every rider’s story begins. In this first IKO level, you’ll learn to understand the wind, control a kite safely, and build the foundation for everything that follows, guided step by step by our IKO certified instructors in Nabq Bay.
What You’ll Learn
- Wind and safety: how to read the wind’s direction and strength, spot hazards, and choose a safe place to set up.
- Your equipment: how a kite, bar and lines work, and how to check everything before you fly.
- Flying the kite: starting with a small trainer kite, then moving on to a real kitesurfing kite.
- Launching and landing: with your instructor’s help, using international hand signals.
- The safety systems: how to de-power the kite and use the quick release, so you always stay in control.

How Long Is the Course?
- Private course: 2 to 3 hours, depending on how quickly you pick things up. Your instructor works at your pace, one to one.
- Group course: 3 hours, so everyone in the group gets enough time flying the kite.
Your IKO Certification Starts Here
At the end of the course, your level is recorded in the IKO system, the first step on your IKO kitesurfing certification. From here, the next step is the Intermediate course, where you’ll body drag, do your first water starts and get on the board.
