Planning a kitesurfing holiday and wondering about the best time to kitesurf in Sharm El Sheikh? The good news is that the wind blows here all year round, but each season has its own character. Here’s what to expect month by month, from the team at The Kite Bubble, the only IKO certified kitesurfing school in Sharm El Sheikh.
Wind Seasons in Sharm El Sheikh
The main wind in Sharm El Sheikh blows from the north-northeast, a steady and predictable wind that’s ideal for learning and progressing.
November to March is the strongest season. Winter brings more wind and longer windy hours each day, which makes it the favourite time for riders who want as many sessions as possible.
April to May and October are transition months with a great balance of wind, warm air and comfortable water, a perfect time for beginners who want pleasant conditions without the summer heat.
June to September still has reliable wind, but it’s usually strongest from the morning until around midday. That suits families perfectly: kite in the morning, then spend the afternoon together on the beach.
Water Temperature and What to Wear
The Red Sea stays warm all year, from around 20°C in winter to 30°C in summer. In winter, a 3/2 mm wetsuit is usually enough, while in summer a shorty or just a lycra will do.
